Getting started

Referral to Inspire Sleep from your family physician: You will be contacted within 24 hours so that you can make your initial appointment. You can also book an appointment directly with us for testing.

Therapy Appointment (1 hour):
a. Review the results of level 3 test results.
b. Discuss treatment options. (CPAP, Oral appliance, Positional Therapy, Lifestyle options)
c. Initiation of CPAP –
→ Successful CPAP therapy is based on Education, Humidity, and a proper Mask.
→ RT will educate you on the benefits and side effects of CPAP therapy.
→ Set expectations and goals for the first week, month and 3 months.
→ RT will review the different CPAP machines and mask choices available to the patient. Recommendations on product are based on clinical benefit to patient.
→ In office acclimatization. A critical part of therapy success is being comfortable on therapy before leaving the office. You will be given as much time as required to comfortably breathe and acclimatize to CPAP pressure while in office.

Home Sleep Study (Level 3) appointment (30 mins):

a. You will meet with one of our experienced respiratory therapists, who will educate you on general information about sleep disorders, including sleep apnea.
b. Therapist will review any of your symptoms, and instruct you on how to wear the testing device. Device will be returned the following day for scoring and interpretation.

Scoring and Interpretation:

a. Test results are scored by a Registered Polysomnography Technologist (RPSGT) and interpreted by a Sleep Physician for interpretation.
b. A preliminary report will be sent to GP within 48 hours of patient returning level 3 unit.
c. Normal results will be returned to referring physician with a recommendation for a referral to a sleep specialist for further investigation.

Acclimatization Period:

a. Acclimatization of CPAP takes approximately 1 – 3 months.
b. The first month is critical to successful therapy. By the end of this 1 month our goal is to have you on the correct pressure, humidity level and mask.
c. Follow-up is done on day 1, 3, 7, 14 and 21 with the RT (patient is given a choice of an in office, phone or email consult).
d. Therapist’s monitor daily compliance, adherence and mask leak and make sure it corresponds with your subjective feelings about their CPAP therapy.
e. At any time during the acclimatization period you will be able to purchase or extend.
f. Once successfully acclimatized, a final report will be sent to your family physician with a CPAP download.

Lifetime follow-ups: Therapist will regularly review patient’s data and compliance and have you return for a follow-up appointment every 6 months.
